BITTNER鈥橲 RESEARCH AND TEACHING A WINNING COMBINATION
Since joining the faculty in 1997, Eric Bittner has garnered numerous accolades, including a 2000 early CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation and a 2007 Guggenheim Fellow.Bittner, professor of chemistry, adds another honor鈥攖he John and Rebecca Moores Professor鈥攖o his list of accomplishments.
Bittner鈥檚 nominator wrote that as a UH faculty member, 鈥淧rofessor Bittner鈥檚 seminal work on trajectory-base methods for performing quantum mechanical calculations has generated considerable excitement in the theoretical chemistry community.鈥
Since 2003, Bittner has published or has in press more than 40 papers in top-ranked, peer-reviewed journals as either the principle or corresponding author.
Bittner, who earned the first Guggenheim Fellow at UH in nearly 20 years and was one of two chemists receiving the award in 2007, also excels in the classroom.
鈥淚n the era where teaching has been watered down to placate students, professor Bittner held the line in his courses,鈥 one supporter wrote in a letter. 鈥淒espite his high expectations, students respond well to him.鈥
This five-year renewable award is given to faculty who are outstanding in teaching, research and service. The recipient is awarded a $10,000 annual stipend.
